In Hungary the puppetry method made its way to 5 groups altogether with 3 different types of vulnerability. There were one-session meetings with young people with low income. Their vulnerability comes from their vocation, since they are becoming teachers in a country where the wages of teachers are way below the standard living minimum. The other group we encountered were people in psychiatric care. They were engaged in the process with deep self reflection and honest openness. The third group were people with special needs. One group had a single session of puppetry making and the other had a 6 session long series of this good practice. During the 6 sessions we managed to build a process which ended in a performance. This way their peers and helpers were included in their process and could meet with what they have achieved during the six weeks. It was a heartwarming experience.
Generally it could be stated that most of the participants were quite unsure about their capability of creating a puppet by themselves. So the single act of how each and every one of them did succeed in creating their own puppet brought empowerment to all of them. There was an almost magical moment in every occasion when the puppet came to life. We could hear gasps and laughter every time when a puppet moved their head, stood up and walked across the table. From papers and strings with 45-60 minutes of work we created life. It is safe to say that this experience will be remembered by every participant for a long time.
